The Crawford Colts pushed their score all the way to 68 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 69-68 to Morse. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (55), Crawford still had to take the loss.
Crawford's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevon Blanks, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Blanks is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Dominick Espalin, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Crawford struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Morse pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Jonathan Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Morse, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 15 rebounds. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jacob Garingo was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Crawford has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Morse, their win bumped their record up to 9-13.
Crawford will be playing at home against Clairemont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Clairemont knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Crawford likes a good challenge. Morse will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Kearny at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th.
