United is 7-2 against Alexander since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The United Longhorns will head out on the road to face off against the Alexander Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. United will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Last Friday, United didn't have too much trouble with Laredo LBJ at home as they won 28-9. Given United's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 377th, while Laredo LBJ is ranked 894th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
United's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Atzel Chavez Jr., who threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Christian Saldana did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 122 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Alexander can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They put the hurt on Del Rio with a sharp 28-7 victory. The victory was nothing new for Alexander as they're now sitting on four straight.
It was another big night for Gael Rodriguez, who rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Rodriguez hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games.
United's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Even more impressive is the teams they beat to make that streak: Laredo LBJ, Eagle Pass, and Harlingen. As for Alexander, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
United strolled past Alexander when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a score of 41-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for United since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
