Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact the Fort Collins Lambkins proved on Saturday. They came out on top against Fairview by a score of 51-39. Given Fort Collins' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Fairview is ranked 154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Collins was led to victory by Rhya Cano and Avery Alcaraz. Cano scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Alcaraz scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. Cano is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Kramar, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Fairview still got an impressive performance from Danae Addison-taylor, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Nuttle, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Fort Collins has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Fairview, they dropped their record down to 7-13 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Collins will take on Legacy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fort Collins focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday. As for Fairview, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Prairie View at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairview is facing Prairie View at the right time seeing as Prairie View is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
