Canyon (New Braunfels, Texas) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as they ran for a touchdown with 5:00 remaining, bringing the team to victory over
San Marcos (Texas) 42-34.
After nabbing the lead on a touchdown run by
Tucker Smith, the Rattlers went into halftime with a 21-20 lead. The Cougars took the lead for good with a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Canyon still trailed by six points going into the fourth quarter. But 16 points in the fourth helped CHS pull out the victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the New Braunfels school, which was coming off a 38-10 defeat at the hands of Judson in its previous game. The defeat comes as a step back for San Marcos, which notched a 33-22 victory over Wagner in its previous outing. The win broke Canyon's two-game losing streak.
