Summit Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against East New York Family Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New York (Summit Academy is ranked 80th, while East New York Family Academy is ranked 60th).
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Summit Academy beat Jay 53-48.
Summit Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sariah Gammon, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Gammon hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Chloe Freeman was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, East New York Family Academy entered their tilt with Longwood Prep Academy with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. East New York Family Academy took down Longwood Prep Academy 65-47 on Wednesday.
Arianna Mercado was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of East New York Family Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amariah Clyne, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Summit Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. As for East New York Family Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Summit Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 41 rebounds per game. However, it's not like East New York Family Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Summit Academy might still be hurting after the 67-47 loss they got from East New York Family Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2022. Can Summit Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
