Basketball Recap: Central Takes a Loss

With Central's effective field goal percentage at 100% and Citrus's at 24% on Tuesday, the final result was to be expected on Tuesday. The Central Bears were outmatched by the Citrus Hurricanes and fell 59-25. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-20 on January 8th.

When it comes to explaining why Central lost, don't look at Elena Sanchez. Despite the final result, she made all 6 shots she took for 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Sanchez a new career-high in points. Cassidy Zavrel was another key player, putting up six points.

Citrus found their leader in sophomore Demi Williamson, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williamson has scored at least a third of Citrus' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendyl Hunnicutt, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 17 boards.

Central has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season. As for Citrus, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-13.

Central will head out to take on Hudson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Central is facing Hudson at the right time seeing as Hudson is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Citrus, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lecanto at 6:00 p.m.
