Childress is 4-0 against Slaton since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Childress Bobcats will look to defend their home court against the Slaton Tigers at 6:15 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Childress has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Slaton will arrive with six straight wins.
Childress' 21-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell 50-40 to Floydada on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Childress can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 705th, while Floydada is ranked 170th).
Despite their defeat, Childress saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Clarissa Gamboa, who scored 14 points along with four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Gamboa set a new season high mark in points with 14. Joshlynn Roark was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Childress struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Slaton earned a 46-34 win over Spearman last Saturday.
Childress has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Slaton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
