The University Heights Blazers are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Northeast Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. University Heights will be strutting in after a victory while Northeast will be coming in after a loss.
Last Thursday, University Heights got the win against Kenwood by a conclusive 16-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blazers.
Katherine Wood made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Wood was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Olivia Oakley was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Emily Dilday was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Northeast duked it out with Fort Campbell on Thursday. Northeast took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fort Campbell. The loss put an end to the Eagles' undefeated start to the season.
Makayla Tusie was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Caylee Warren, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Northeast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .513 or higher in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.
University Heights' record is now 2-0. As for Northeast, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
University Heights suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Northeast in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can University Heights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
