Pueblo South has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pueblo South comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Pueblo South suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Monday. They were outmatched by Pueblo East at home and fell 61-21. Pueblo South has not had much luck with Pueblo East recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Pueblo South had strong showings from Gracie Gonzales, who scored five points along with four blocks, and Jaime Pearson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Pearson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Pueblo Centennial ended up a good deal behind Pueblo County on Wednesday and lost 48-29. While losing is never fun, Pueblo Centennial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Pueblo County is ranked 120th).
Pueblo South has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Pueblo Centennial, they bumped their record down to 3-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Pueblo South won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, slipping by Pueblo Centennial 36-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pueblo South since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
