Basketball Game Preview: Macon County Bulldogs vs. Taylor County Vikings

Macon County is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Taylor County is on a eight-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Macon County Bulldogs will host the Taylor County Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Macon County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Macon County greeted the New Year with with a 49-31 victory over Schley County. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Wildcats are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Macon County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aniah Lake out in front who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and five assists. What's more, Lake also racked up five steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Morgan Cochran, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards.

Macon County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 16 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Taylor County posted their closest victory since January 19, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Marion County, sneaking past 45-43.

Macon County's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Taylor County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.

Things could have been worse for Macon County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-47 loss to Taylor County in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Macon County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
