The Sunnyside Wildcats waltzed into their game Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Garces Memorial 75-72. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Malachi Barnes was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points. The game was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Tanner Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Sunnyside is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Garces Memorial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Sunnyside's road trip will continue as they head out to face Taft at 2:00 p.m. on December 16th. Garces Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lemoore at 5:30 p.m. on December 15th. Lemoore will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 707th, while Garces Memorial is ranked 290th).
