Callaway is 1-7 against Vicksburg since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Callaway Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Vicksburg Gators at 7:00 p.m. Vicksburg took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Callaway, who comes in off a win.
Callaway fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took down Ridgeland 28-14 on Thursday.
Callaway's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Duran McClendon led the charge by rushing for 201 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Kantrell Thomas Jr, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Vicksburg might've scored the first points on Friday, but it was Warren Central who claimed the real prize. Vicksburg and Warren Central were almost perfectly matched up, but Vicksburg suffered an agonizing 19-18 defeat. Vicksburg has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from DeCorey Knight Jr, who rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Callaway's victory on Thursday bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Vicksburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Callaway came up short against Vicksburg in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 27-22. Can Callaway avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
