The Montgomery Red Raiders will take on the Muncy Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Friday, Montgomery made easy work of Benton and carried off an 18-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Red Raiders, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Montgomery let Chloe Gordner and Madisyn Miller run wild. Gordner got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs and three RBI, while Miller went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs. Addi Muhl was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Montgomery was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive matches.
Muncy never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Friday. They blew past the Rams 20-4. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Chevelle Bauman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. Bauman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Leah Vest and Taylor Shannon did most of the damage at the plate: Vest went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Shannon went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those doubles were Vest's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jailyn Baker, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Montgomery pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average this season. As for Muncy, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Muncy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montgomery hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. It's a different story for Muncy, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Montgomery's hitters?
Montgomery took their victory against Muncy in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Red Raiders repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
