After having lost a blowout in their previous game against East Wake, the West Johnston Wildcats were happy to have found some success on Friday. They took down Smithfield-Selma 65-46. That looming 65-46 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for West Johnston yet this season.
It was another big night for Caden Horay, who scored 22 points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of William Moore, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Smithfield-Selma lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacob Stewart, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Elijah Bailey, who scored ten points.
West Johnston's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss was their 17th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-9.
West Johnston will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against C.B. Aycock at 7:30 p.m. C.B. Aycock knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully West Johnston likes a good challenge. Smithfield-Selma's road trip will continue as they head out to face Southern Wayne at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th.
