It was a good run, but the Dreher Blue Devils unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Orangeburg-Wilkinson by a score of 49-47. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Dreher of the 42-39 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the loss, Dreher still got an impressive performance from Tony Baker, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Baker has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Barr, who scored 11 points.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamari Williams led the charge by scoring 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Jamison, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Dreher's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.
Dreher will be playing in front of their home fans against Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Dreher is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gilbert in South Carolina (Dreher is ranked 85th, while Gilbert is ranked 228th). As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, they will head out on the road to take on Lower Richland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Orangeburg-Wilkinson is coming into the match with six straight wins on the road, meaning Lower Richland will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
