United is on a seven-game streak of home losses, and Del Rio a seven-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The United Longhorns will host the Del Rio Rams at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, United turned things around against United South on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Panthers 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Longhorns have posted since February 20th.
United saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tatiana Mejia, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Mejia has posted since back in March of 2024. Aubrey Woods was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Mejia wasn't the only one working in the hit department: United kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. United is a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Del Rio ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Alexander 7-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Karina Limon made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching eight innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Limon was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devyn Casillas, who went 3-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Casillas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Del Rio's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 6-19. As for United, their victory bumped their record up to 8-16-1.
United was able to grind out a solid win over Del Rio in their previous matchup on March 7th, winning 6-2. Will United repeat their success, or does Del Rio has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
