Taylor Akin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maya Bell, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Teal Brockenbush, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Lexington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jourdanton only posted a batting average of .286.
Meanwhile, while Coahoma put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for S & S Consolidated. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Rams. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Hannah Wells was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Wells was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Mia Clemmer was a standout: she fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-5. Emery Doporto was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Lexington's record now sits at 27-8. As for Coahoma, their record is now 34-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lexington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Coahoma struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
