Softball Recap: Blacksburg Wins Going Away Against Myrtle Beach

Blacksburg gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past the Myrtle Beach Seahawks 11-1. Considering the Wildcats have won six games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Lucy Thayer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Ema Gaut was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Butler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Blacksburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Myrtle Beach only posted a batting average of .222.

Blacksburg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Myrtle Beach, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blacksburg will venture away from home to face off against Chesnee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Myrtle Beach, they will head out to take on Carolina Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Seahawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
