The Montgomery Central Indians will head out on the road to take on the Fairview Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Monday, Montgomery Central made easy work of Jo Byrns and carried off a 10-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won four in a row.
Addison Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Harp, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Arrington, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Montgomery Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Fairview got the win against Hickman County on Friday by a conclusive 17-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Yellowjackets' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Maddie McGowan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. McGowan was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Allie Penning was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cameryn Dunn, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Montgomery Central's record is now 2-3. As for Fairview, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Montgomery Central couldn't quite get it done against Fairview in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can Montgomery Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
