Even though the Gulf Breeze Dolphins have not done well against the Milton Panthers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Gulf Breeze strolled past Milton with points to spare, taking the game 50-36. Given Gulf Breeze's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Milton is ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gulf Breeze's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lila Jacobs, who scored 16 points along with five steals. Jacobs has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayah Jones, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Gulf Breeze is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Milton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gulf Breeze will take on Jay at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Milton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northview at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
