IA Southern - Sunrise recap Sept. 26, 2012
Boulder City's Billy Viera rumbled for the longest rushing play in IA Southern - Sunrise this season in his game against Desert Pines last week. Viera scampered for 94 yards on the play and finished with 151 on the day as his team beat the Jaguars.
Moapa Valley extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sunrise Mountain, 54-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Boulder City's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Joseph Miller threw for 49 yards and Reynolds Cole had 40 yards receiving. Corbett Fleming helped Boulder City's passing attack out by catching one ball for six yards.
Trey Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as Sunrise Mountain fell to Moapa Valley. The 5-foot-9 junior pulled down one interception.
6-foot-0 quarterback Garrett Leavitt of Virgin Valley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 449. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Brent Lewis's team's Conner Mortensen has rushed for 655 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is A'keem Ross. The Sunrise Mountain star has 20 catches for 244 yards.
A big matchup in IA Southern - Sunrise this week will be when the Bulldogs take on the Eagles. Virgin Valley is in third place, while Boulder City is in first place.
