This season hasn't been kind to the Corinth Holders Pirates, who are still winless after their eighth match. They fell to Fuquay - Varina 58-54. Corinth Holders has struggled against Fuquay - Varina recently, as their match on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evan Smith, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Sandaire, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
It was another big night for Drew Willis, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds for Fuquay - Varina. That's the first time this season that Willis scored 15 or more points. Abdou Diop was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with four steals.
Corinth Holders bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fuquay - Varina, their win bumped their record up to 2-7.
Corinth Holders will head out on the road to face off against Southeast Raleigh at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeast Raleigh knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Corinth Holders likes a good challenge. Fuquay - Varina will be home for the holidays to greet Cleveland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cleveland presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fuquay - Varina in North Carolina (Cleveland is ranked 241st, while Fuquay - Varina is ranked 538th).
