The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 76-52 defeat at the hands of Cholla. While losing is never fun, Ironwood Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Chargers are ranked 73rd).
Despite the loss, Ironwood Ridge still got an impressive performance from Carter Brown, who scored 20 points along with two steals. Brown has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Rossetti, who scored six points.
Cyree Jenkins was his usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with three steals for Cholla. Jenkins is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Michael Payne, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Ironwood Ridge has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Cholla, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ironwood Ridge will take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Catalina Foothills' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games. As for Cholla, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Mountain Lions at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st.
