Basketball Recap: Cameron Fleming's Big Game Can't Quite Lead R.J. Reynolds over Parkland

R.J. Reynolds was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 70-44 to the Parkland Mustangs. That's two games in a row now that the Demons have lost by exactly 26 points.

Several Demons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Fleming, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Fleming a new career-high in assists (two). Another player making a difference was Evie Beale, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, R.J. Reynolds smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Leading Parkland to victory were Jordan Fisher and Azari Wilkins. Fisher dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 steals, while Wilkins went 8 of 12 on her way to 22 points and four steals. Fisher has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Asia Blackwell, who had six points in addition to ten boards and three steals.

R.J. Reynolds' defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Parkland, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

R.J. Reynolds will venture away from home to take on Glenn at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. R.J. Reynolds is facing Glenn at the right time seeing as Glenn is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Parkland, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against East Forsyth at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as East Forsyth comes in on three and Parkland on eight.
