The Halls Red Devils will head out to face off against the Powell Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Halls' pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so Powell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Halls barely beat Karns the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Devils blew past the Beavers 9-2 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Emery Bales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Halls got a massive performance out of Makaylie Hutchison, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Hutchison has posted over her last 11 matchups. Harper Bales was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Powell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Anderson County 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 14th.
Nevaeh Wells and Lizzi Lowe did most of the damage at the plate: Wells got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one double, while Lowe scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylan Heatherly, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
Powell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .521. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anderson County only posted an OBP of .357.
Halls pushed their record up to 18-4-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Powell, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Halls came out on top in a nail-biter against Powell in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
