The Heritage Patriots were the 88-73 winner over the Lakeside Lancers when they last played one another on January 3rd, but their luck changed this time around. Heritage took a 78-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lakeside on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (65), Heritage still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Heritage lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aaron Contreras. Despite the final result, he scored 32 points. Adrian Viray was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Lakeside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maurice Turner led the charge by scoring 25 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Turner has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Knudson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Heritage's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-14. As for Lakeside, their win bumped their record up to 9-14.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Vista del Lago the next time they take the court. Heritage will head out to face Vista del Lago at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Lakeside will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
