After a string of four wins, East Carteret's good fortune finally ran out  on Wednesday. They came up short against  the Croatan Cougars, falling  3-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Mariners haven't been shut out since  back in August.
 The final score came out to 25-17, 25-16,  25-21.
 Samiyah Benders paced East Carteret's offense, picking up nine kills. Benders got some help from  Kolby Piner and her 21 assists.  KJ Bass and  Mali Peck kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.
East Carteret's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Croatan, they pushed their record up to 10-7 with the  win, which was their third straight  on the road.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Carteret will venture away from home to  square off against Pamlico County  at 6:00  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Croatan, they will head out to  face off against Northside - Jacksonville  at 5:30  p.m.  on Thursday.
