Make it 15 blowout wins for the St. Johns Redskins this season. They claimed a resounding 71-35 win over Pinon at home. Winning may never get old, but St. Johns sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Leading St. Johns to victory were Kayme Smith and Payton Nielsen. Smith almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals, while Nielsen scored 18 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nielsen has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Richardson, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the defeat, Pinon saw an underclassman step up: Shanna Begaye scored nine points along with two blocks. It was the first time this season that Begaye posted two or more blocks. Alysia Mike was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds.
St. Johns is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. As for Pinon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.
St. Johns won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Knights at 3:00 p.m. on January 27th. Greyhills Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Pinon, they and the Lobos will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
