Basketball Game Preview: Wilsonville Wildcats vs. Putnam Kingsmen

Wilsonville is 9-1 against Putnam since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Wilsonville Wildcats will head out to challenge the Putnam Kingsmen at 7:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Putnam will be up against a hot Wilsonville team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Wilsonville took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 62-17 win over Hood River Valley. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

Gabi Moultrie was her usual excellent self, going 8 for 15 en route to 21 points in addition to six assists and five steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Fareeda ElManhawy, who made all 5 shots she took for 10 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Putnam). They blew past Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts 60-25 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Wilsonville's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.8 points per game. As for Putnam, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9.

Everything came up roses for Wilsonville against Putnam in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 74-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wilsonville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
