The Hubbard Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the West Middlesex Big Reds at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hubbard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Hubbard after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 8-5 to Girard. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Haleigh Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Layla Songer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzie Slifka, who got three hits from her three at bats.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither West Middlesex nor Mercer made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Big Reds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Big Reds have posted since March 18, 2025.
West Middlesex also let their pitcher toss all nine innings and she was also dialed-in: Harper Nickel (Waynesburg) gave up only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Aria Schwartz was excellent, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Abigail Geiwitz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Hubbard's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for West Middlesex, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
West Middlesex's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hubbard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452.
