The Upper Scioto Valley Rams will face off against the Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Cory-Rawson will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Upper Scioto Valley extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Rams skirted past Waynesfield-Goshen 7-5. The game was the first time the Rams have beaten the Tigers on their field since April 23, 2018.

Maddox Underwood was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Upper Scioto Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-7 otherwise. Underwood was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Underwood wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits Davis has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Cory-Rawson sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Arcadia on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Hornets.
Shyler Ludwig spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dom Moon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with six stolen bases and three runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Hank Walters was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Upper Scioto Valley pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Cory-Rawson, their win bumped their record up to 4-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Upper Scioto Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cory-Rawson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Upper Scioto Valley took their victory against Cory-Rawson in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Fighting Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
