Indian River hasn't had much luck against Lowville recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wolves will welcome the Red Raiders at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Indian River took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Watertown, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolves skirted past the Cyclones 2-1.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lowville and Beaver River, and Lowville kept the tradition alive. The Red Raiders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Beavers on Saturday.
Devin Sweirnik was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brycen Villiere was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Zane Zustra was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
Lowville pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Indian River, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Indian River has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lowville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Indian River couldn't quite get it done against Lowville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
