The Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers will face off against the Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Charlotte Country Day School's offense. They fell 5-0 to Covenant Day on Thursday. The Buccaneers haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Charlotte Country Day School got a good showing from Dehler Hart, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs Hart has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, Charlotte Country Day School saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wesleyan Christian Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They never let Westchester Country Day get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Sam Cozart looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He is becoming a predictor of Wesleyan Christian Academy's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 6-11 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Blake Goff and Nick Papciak did most of the damage at the plate: Goff went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and two runs, while Papciak got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Wesleyan Christian Academy is 4-1 when Papciak posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Thompson Holloway was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
Wesleyan Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Wesleyan Christian Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Charlotte Country Day School, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-17.
Charlotte Country Day School came up short against Wesleyan Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, falling 5-2. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
