Kyla Long spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Karleigh Baker was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Karli Brabson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Wartburg Central had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Oneida 18-2 on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Braylen Melton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Melton was even better at the plate, scoring five runs and stealing Five bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Wartburg Central let Edye-Ann Williams and Caleigh Crouch run wild. Williams scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances, while Crouch scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Crouch has posted since back in May of 2024. Shelby Kelly was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Wartburg Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oneida only posted an OBP of .286.
Eagleton College & Career Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Wartburg Central, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
