Nitro and Winfield are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Nitro Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Winfield Generals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nitro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Winfield likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Nitro faced Teays Valley Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Nitro blew past Teays Valley Christian 106-84. That 106-84 margin sets a new team best for Nitro this season.
Nitro relied on the efforts of Ashton Crouch, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds, and Landon Poniatowski, who scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. That's the first time this season that Poniatowski scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Stephens, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Winfield came up short against St. Albans on Friday and fell 56-44.
Nitro's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Winfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Nitro didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Winfield in their previous meeting back in February, but they still walked away with a 67-62 win. Will Nitro repeat their success, or does Winfield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
