Coolidge hasn't had much luck against Florence recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bears will host the Gophers at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Coolidge proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Globe, sneaking past 8-6. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
The team relied heavily on Ruben Baca, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Florence made easy work of Globe on Tuesday and carried off a 14-4 win. Considering the Gophers have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jagger Navarro made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Navarro was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.
Florence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive contests.
Coolidge's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Florence, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Coolidge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Florence struggles in that department as they've averaged .506. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coolidge suffered a grim 28-3 defeat to Florence in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
