The Cienega Bobcats will square off against the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Cienega played in-conference for the first time on Tuesday and got just the result they were looking for. Everything went their way against Pueblo as they made off with a 13-3 win.
Cienega got a great performance from CARLOS DAVILA as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, DAVILA posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, JAMES LINZMEYER and NANO LOPEZ did most of the damage at the plate: LINZMEYER got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while LOPEZ scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave LOPEZ a new career-high. JAKE RIESGO was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Cienega was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo only posted a batting average of .211.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Tucson High Magnet School by a score of 10-6 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Blue Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
DIEGO GARCIA made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Sunnyside is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise. GARCIA was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on LUCAS MATA, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was SABINO GONZALEZ, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
The win got Cienega back to even at 7-7. As for Sunnyside, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
Cienega couldn't quite get it done against Sunnyside in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 as they fell 10-5. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
