The Elkhorn South Storm will be home for the holidays to greet the Omaha Northwest Huskies at 8:45 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Elkhorn South managed to keep up with Papillion-LaVista South until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Elkhorn South's tough 53-32 defeat to Papillion-LaVista South might stick with them for a while. Elkhorn South has not had much luck with Papillion-LaVista South recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Mollie Probasco, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Penke, who scored five points along with five steals.
Elkhorn South struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Omaha Northwest's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Kearney, falling 71-36.
Omaha Northwest's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Abriya Watkins, who scored 20 points, and Jessica Houston who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds. Watkins scored a full 55.6% of Omaha Northwest's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Elkhorn South's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Omaha Northwest, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4.
Elkhorn South strolled past Omaha Northwest in their previous matchup back in February by a score of 61-46. Does Elkhorn South have another victory up their sleeve, or will Omaha Northwest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
