Basketball Recap: Jackson Sheppard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bulloch Academy over St. Andrew's

Bulloch Academy suffered their biggest defeat since December 27, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against the St. Andrew's Lions, falling 73-50. The loss continues a trend for the Gators in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost eight in a row.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jackson Sheppard, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Sheppard a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Akiryon Watkins, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Bulloch Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

St. Andrew's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zayden Edwards led the charge by putting up 20 points in addition to eight assists and six boards. The contest was Edwards' third in a row with at least ten points. Ja'Cari Glover was another key player, going 8 for 12 on his way to 19 points and seven rebounds.

Bulloch Academy's record now sits at 8-10. As for St. Andrew's, their victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-3.

While Bulloch Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
