The Declo Hornets will take on the Soda Springs Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Declo is looking for their season's first win.
Things were looking good for Declo after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Teton, falling 12-2.
Declo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Race Zollinger, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Soda Springs). Everything went their way against West Jefferson on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Kyen Kirby and Junior Horsley made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Kirby tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Horsley kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Soda Springs is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. At bat, Kirby went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Horsley scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave Horsley a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kolten Peterson was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Randy Stephens, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Soda Springs' victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Declo, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Declo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Soda Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Declo took their win against Soda Springs in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-3 score. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
