Given Casteel's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while McClintock is ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Casteel to victory were Aidan Schmidt and Amare King. Schmidt dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds, while King dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was King's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Kaelum Brown was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
McClintock's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyler Frye, who scored 19 points along with eight assists. The game was Frye's 15th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Josh McManaway , who scored 18 points.
Casteel's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for McClintock, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.
