The Quitman Wolverines will challenge the Ruston Bearcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Quitman will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Quitman's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Minden as Quitman made off with an 11-0 win.
Brenna Lamkin made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Lamkin was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Leach, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Maggie Guyotte was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Quitman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Ruston suffered their biggest defeat since March 26, 2024 on Monday. They lost 12-2 to D'Arbonne Woods. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Bearcats' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Morgan Foster made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Quitman's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Ruston, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Quitman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Ruston struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Quitman's way against Ruston in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Quitman made off with a 14-0 win. Will Quitman repeat their success, or does Ruston have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
