AJ Giberson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Jacob Hedrick was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Owen Cotta was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Lake Region hit Leavitt with a five-run second inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets fell just short of the Lakers by a score of 7-6.
Like Lincoln Academy, Leavitt also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryder Sawyer-Brown. He tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Sawyer-Brown has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Leavitt is 2-1 when Sawyer-Brown posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, John Oliver and Nick Mellen stepped up to the plate in a big way. Oliver got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI, while Mellen went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Mellen has hit this season.
Lincoln Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-9-1. As for Leavitt, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lincoln Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Leavitt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lincoln Academy couldn't quite finish off Leavitt when the teams last played on May 9th and fell 2-0. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
