Given Cape Fear Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Saints are ranked 445th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Cape Fear Academy to victory were Angelo Vega and Isaiah Gibson. Vega scored 11 points along with six rebounds, while Gibson dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Luke Fascher was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, John Paul II Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Knight scored 12 points.
Cape Fear Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for John Paul II Catholic, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
