It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Crest Chargers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Statesville by a score of 28-16. Crest's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Ny?tavious Huskey was his usual excellent self, throwing for 240 yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Aiden Carson, who rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Crest's defense and their three sacks. Zyreion Jamison was especially locked on to Statesville's QB and sacked him twice.
Crest has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Stuart W. Cramer and 2-9 Parkwood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 41.8% over those games). As for Statesville, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4.
Crest will be playing at home against West Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Statesville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
