Julian's Cole Southcott recorded the longest rushing play in Citrus this season in his game against Lutheran last week. Southcott's team bested the Knights as he sprinted for 88 yards on the play and finished with 105 in all.
Calvary Christian Academy moved up to 990 from 1,016 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Royal Knights were able to move up by beating Classical Academy 34-27.
Gunner Van Sickle was a key player and the best on defense this week as Borrego Springs topped Foothills Christian. The 5-foot-11 junior grabbed 2 interceptions and recorded 1 fumble.
Noah Henkell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lutheran fell to Julian. He completed 11 passes for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 40 yards. Henkell's favorite target this week was James Watts, who caught 5 passes for 115 yards.
Hunter McConnell threw for 112 yards and 4 touchdowns.
McConnell and Steven Canales gave Tim White's team a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Teammate Southcott added to the ground attack by rushing for 105 yards.
Ron Allen's team's Henkell and Kevin Gunn have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Henkell has thrown for 1,252 yards this season, while Gunn has 25 catches for 387 yards. The Eagles' Canales leads the league in rushing yards with 826.
An important game coming up in Citrus this week will be when Calvary Christian Academy takes on Julian. At the moment, Gene Rheam's team is in third, while the Eagles are in first.
The league will see a high scoring game when the Royal Knights and Julian face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Calvary Christian Academy comes in having scored 156 this season, while the Eagles have scored 161. The Royal Knights scored 34 points last week as they bested Classical Academy.
Julian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. The Eagles defeated the Knights 40-14 earlier in the week.
