5A Region 4 recap October 8, 2013
Lone Peak was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth in 5A Region 4. The Knights beat Pleasant Grove 27-17 earlier in the week.
Riverton took down Lehi 71-50 last week, the largest margin of any game. Paden Cayias ran for 193 yards in the win.
American Fork's dynamic duo of Tanner Smith and Hayden Johnson proved to be unstoppable against Herriman, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns and Johnson had 109 yards receiving. Lopini (Zach) Katoa helped American Fork's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 66 yards.
Baron GAJKOWSKI was a passing and rushing force as Lone Peak bested the Vikings. He completed 12 passes for 171 yards and also ran for 166 yards. GAJKOWSKI's key target this week was Erik OSTROM, who caught 5 passes for 85 yards.
Caden Calton was a force in the backfield as the Pioneers lost to the Silverwolves.
Kurtis Anderson was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Cavemen topped the Mustangs. The 6-foot-3 senior recorded 2 fumbles.
5-foot-10 quarterback Jacen Condie of American Fork is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,591. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Spencer Romney. The Pleasant Grove star has 22 catches for 632 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Aaron Behm's team and Lehi. The Cavemen enters the contest ranked eighth in the state, while David Hastings' team ranks 24th.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when American Fork and the Pioneers face off next week.
The Cavemen and Herriman played the most contested game in 5A Region 4 this week, with the Cavemen eventually emerging with a 38-36 victory. Smith during the win.
