A big part of Vandegrift's win came down to the chemistry between Miles Teodecki and his top target Brock Chilton. Teodecki threw for 183 yards and one touchdown while completing 89.5% of his passes while Chilton picked up 132 receiving yards and one TD. That's the most receiving yards Chilton has posted since back in September. Justin Moore handled things on the ground, rushing for 90 yards.
Vandegrift's run defense was locked in: Dripping Springs could only muster 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Colt Stevens for the heroic effort on defense: he. Vandegrift's ground attack was stronger, having averaged four.
Vandegrift didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Luke Davis and Parker Davis each grabbed an interception. Luke also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday King sidestepped Summer Creek for a 24-21 victory. The 24-point effort marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Vandegrift better keep an eye on Dionne Sims. He was instrumental in King's win, rushing for 229 yards and three scores.
One reason for the win was King's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Dominick Toulon and Omarion Smith, who racked up four sacks between them. Toulon is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last eight games he's played. King got some further help from Damian Broussard: he picked up a sack and made nine total tackles.
Vandegrift's record now sits at 12-2. As for King, their record is now an identical 12-2.
Saturday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Vandegrift has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 156.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like King struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 325.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
