Baseball Recap: Cocalico's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Cocalico lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Octorara Area, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's contest. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Braves a 9-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their 11-game losing streak.

Aiden Davis made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cocalico is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-13 otherwise. Davis was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Alex Fox was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Logan Horning, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Cocalico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Cocalico's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 2-14. As for Octorara Area, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Cocalico will be playing in front of their home fans against Solanco at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Considering the Eagles have lost nine straight at home (dating back to last season) and the Golden Mules four straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum. As for Octorara Area, they will venture away from home to face off against Pequea Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
