The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sky Lopez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards. Those 17 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Cortinas, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards.
Even though they lost, Brackenridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Sam Houston entered their tilt with Burbank on Friday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They skirted past the Bulldogs 61-59. Given the Hurricanes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 417th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Jakiyah Caldwell and Zara?Nique Nealy. Caldwell had a solid game and posted 13 points. Meanwhile, Nealy did her best for the losing side, going 9 of 15 on her way to 20 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.
Brackenridge's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-12. As for Sam Houston, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
